With the start of beginning my master’s degree, I was worried that I would not have the opportunity to participate in Jane Austen July, as I have been doing it since either the first or second event. However, time in doctors’ offices allowed me extra reading time. Most were on the Kindle, so they are not pictured, but I am listing them below. Reviews for a few of these books are currently up on my blog or will be making their way there over the next few days. Many of these books I would recommend reading soon or add to your TBR for next year.

Challenge 1: One of Jane Austen’s Six Main Novels

After much debate, I decided to read Emma, as it is my favourite of Jane Austen’s novels.

Challenge 2: Read Something of Jane Austen’s That is Not One of Her Main Six

I decided to read a few of her letters.

Challenge 3: Read a Non-Fiction Work About Jane Austen or Her Time

A Visitor’s Guide to Jane Austen’s England by Sue Wilkes. I really enjoyed this book. A review will be up soon.

Challenge 4: Read a Retelling of a Jane Austen Novel or a Work of Historical Fiction Set in Her Time

I read a few retellings. I enjoyed all of these in very different ways.

Accomplished by Amanda Quain was a fun retelling of Pride and Prejudice, set in modern day, and from the perspective of Georgiana Darcy. Review is up on my blog.

Dear Mr. Knightley by Katherine Reay was an enjoyable, quick read told in letter form. I had heard mixed thoughts on this book, but I enjoyed it. It got me kicked off for Jane Austen July and out of a long reading slump.

Sense and Second-Degree Murder by Tirzah Price was a fun take on Sense and Sensibility and a mystery. If you are familiar with Austen it is fairly predictable, but I did love the science aspect and the fact that Marianne had some brains, while still remaining true to the Marianne that Austen wrote.

Austenland by Shannon Hale was a reread for me. I usually reread it once a year because it is a super quick read, and I love it so much. It never fails to make me laugh.

Challenge 5: Read a Book by a Contemporary of Jane Austen

I have started A Sicilian Romance by Ann Radcliff, but I will not finish it by tonight.

I have also read some various poetry.

Challenge 6: Watch a Direct Screen Adaptation

 Sense and Sensibility (1995)

 Emma (1996)

 Emma (1995)

 Mansfield Park (1999)

 Pride and Prejudice (2005)

 Emma (2020)

 Sanditon (I started season 1)

 Northanger Abbey (2007)

Challenge 7: Watch a Modern Screen Adaptation

Austenland- I watched this over a dozen times. I love this movie so much.

 Bridget Jone’s Diary

 Bride and Prejudice

 Pride & Prejudice & Mistletoe

 Rational Creatures (started)
